Why prices are hard to compare

Since September 2021, the Competition and Markets Authority has required every UK funeral director to publish a standardised price list covering an attended funeral, an unattended funeral, and the items that make them up. The rule exists so families can compare firms without ringing round in the days after a death. In practice, some lists are buried in PDFs, some are scanned images, and some are simply not there. Where we cannot read a price, we say so rather than estimating one.
