The council prices its 8.30am/8.45am weekday-only slot as a distinct “direct cremation fee” – its own fee schedule lists this separately from the standard attended cremation, with no chapel service included.

Chapel capacity
Following a health and safety risk assessment carried out with the council’s Health and Safety and Fire Officers, the maximum allowed in the Service Hall/Chapel is 170: 135 seated and 35 standing. A further 25 people can be accommodated in the waiting room, which has a screen and speaker so the service can be observed, and outside speakers are switched on for those unable to enter the chapel.

Accessibility and parking
There are 8 disabled parking spaces at the crematorium, with a ramp to the main waiting area. The main office, main chapel, and Chapel of Remembrance are all fully wheelchair accessible.

The Chapel of Remembrance, which holds the Books of Remembrance, closes 30 minutes before the gates. Only the current page of each book can be viewed. The crematorium office remains closed to general callers, though appointments can be arranged for Book of Remembrance entries and kerbstone applications or renewals.

History and location
Margam Crematorium was built for the Port Talbot and District Joint Crematorium Committee, formed from four local authorities, on a site by the Eglwys Nunydd reservoir. It opened on 1 May 1969 – the eighth crematorium built in Wales. It sits near the Margam Interchange, four miles east of Port Talbot, with access from the A48 (Swansea to Cardiff) and M4 Junction 38; the motorway is screened from the crematorium grounds.
