Headstones, memorials and inscriptions
Every burial and cremated remains plot in a Bexley cemetery is permitted a memorial, though the options depend on which cemetery and plot type you have: a full memorial with headstone and kerb set, a lawn memorial, a vase, an ashes tablet, or a plaque.
Memorials for Garden of Remembrance plots and sanctum vaults must be ordered directly through the Cemeteries Office. For all other plots, order through your own memorial stonemason, who must work within the council’s sizing, material and design restrictions.
Timing. A full memorial can’t be fitted until at least 12 months after the most recent burial. A lawn memorial needs at least 6 months. For cremated remains plots, the wait is shorter and varies by cemetery, from immediate fitting up to 3 months.
Permission. If the grave is leased, you need the grave owner’s permission before fitting a memorial – it won’t be permitted without this.
