Families who’d rather bury ashes than scatter them can do so at Southern Cemetery on the same site, with its own ashes burial fees.
The two chapels
Wilford Hill has two chapels. The Main Chapel seats 80 and runs on hourly time slots; the West Chapel seats 55, with additional standing room, and runs on 30-minute slots. Both have stained glass windows – the Main Chapel’s depict the changing seasons – and both are fitted with a hearing loop. Services can use a CD player, an organ, or the crematorium’s loudspeaker system, and large screens are available for visual tributes and webcast. Each chapel has its own vestry for whoever is leading the service, and there are two waiting areas with views across the city. All religious and non-denominational services are welcome in either chapel, with religious symbols displayed or removed on request.
The standard service is 40 minutes, with staggered scheduling so both chapels can run at the same time. Witnessed charge cremation – where the family wants to see the coffin committed for cremation – is available in the Main Chapel before 1pm. Direct cremation, without any attendees, is also available as a lower-cost option.

Parking and access
Free parking is available off Loughborough Road and to the rear of the crematorium, where disabled parking spaces are also provided, with overflow parking near the Woodland Walk entrance.

Opening hours
The crematorium office is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm (appointment only). The grounds have seasonal hours: 8am–6pm Monday to Saturday and 9am–6pm Sunday from April to September; 8am–5pm Monday to Saturday and 9am–5pm Sunday in March and October; and 8am–4pm Monday to Saturday and 9am–4pm Sunday from November to February.

After the cremation
Once the cremation is complete, families can choose witnessed or unwitnessed scattering at Wilford Hill, burial of ashes in a grave or cremated remains niche, placement in a memorial, sanctum or wall niche, or collection by the family or funeral director to take elsewhere. Floral tributes are displayed in the crematorium’s flower bays for 7 days after the funeral.

About this crematorium
Wilford Hill Crematorium opened in 1931 and is run by Nottingham City Council. It sits on the same Loughborough Road site as Southern Cemetery, one of the three main cemeteries the council manages across the city alongside Highwood Cemetery and Northern Cemetery in Bulwell.
