Service types and times
Southwark Council offers six adult cremation service types, each with a set length and permitted booking times, Monday to Friday:
- Direct & contracted (unattended): 15-minute slot at 9am, 9.15am, 9.30am or 9.45am. No family attendance.
- Simplicity cremation service: 30 minutes, bookable at 10am, 10.30am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm or 3pm.
- Classic cremation service: 60 minutes, bookable at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm or 3pm.
- Witnessed cremation service: up to 60 minutes with witnessed charging for a maximum of six people, funeral director must be present.
- Seasonal cremation service: 60 minutes at 4pm in spring and summer, by special appointment.
- Weekend services: Saturday and Sunday, by special appointment, based on the Classic or Witnessed format.

The chapel
The chapel seats 70, with the entrance hall used as standing room for larger gatherings. It was built in the Italianate style in 1939, with a chimney resembling the Campanile at St Mark’s, Venice, and a stained-glass window; the building holds Grade II listed status. Webcasting and media
Live streaming (“Live & On Demand”) is available for £60.70, with a shareable secure link during the service and 28 days of online viewing plus a downloadable file. A DVD or USB recording is also £60.70. Southwark notes that streaming depends on an internet connection and it cannot accept responsibility for any service disruption or power outage. Opening hours and access
The Bereavement Services office is open 9.30am to 4pm. Camberwell New Cemetery, where the crematorium sits, is open 365 days a year: gates open at 8am Monday to Saturday and 10am on Sundays and bank holidays, with closing times ranging from 4.30pm in December to 9.30pm in June and July.
