Site history
Rose Hill Cemetery opened in 1934 to relieve pressure on Doncaster’s Hyde Park Cemetery, and the crematorium was added later, opening in October 1960. The cemetery entrance, off Ascot Road, is a single-storey arched building in red brick with stone dressings and small red clay tiles, and the chapel at the centre of the grounds shares the same architectural style. The wider site sits within the historic Cantley Estate and keeps many of its original tree-lined avenues – silver birch, whitebeam, horse chestnut and lime – along with a dedicated landscaped area for burials of children and babies.
