Canterbury burial costs
Canterbury City Council operates cemeteries across the district. All fees include VAT where applicable. Most families buying a standard adult grave pay the same rate regardless of where they live – the resident/non-resident split only bites on the smaller 4’6” x 4’ grave option.
Grave purchase (exclusive right of burial)
| Grave type | Resident fee | Non-resident fee |
|---|---|---|
| Single adult grave (9’ x 4’) | £1,456 | £1,456 |
| Single grave (4’6” x 4’) | £728 | £1,456 |
| Child grave under 5 (4’6” x 4’) | £364 | £728 |
| Cremation plot (20 years, renewable) | £161 | £161 |
| Grave lease renewal | £291 | £291 |
The 4’6” x 4’ grave spaces have a resident/non-resident distinction; the larger 9’ x 4’ graves are charged at the same rate for all purchasers.
