Temporary closure for refurbishment
Worcester Crematorium closed on 4 August 2025 for a major refurbishment, including new electric cremators, a new roof, and grounds improvements. The council’s published timeline puts completion at “summer 2026” over a nine-month works programme, but no reopening has been confirmed as of 2 September 2026, so treat the site as still closed until Worcester City Council or Worcester Cemeteries publish a reopening date.
While the crematorium is closed:
- Funeral services are held at the KGV Community Hub, Ash Avenue, off Brickfields Road, Worcester, WR4 9TL (a few minutes’ walk from Astwood Cemetery).
- Cremations themselves take place at Redditch Crematorium, with ashes returned to the KGV Hub for collection unless other arrangements are made with your funeral director.
- Astwood Cemetery and St John’s Cemetery remain open as normal for burials and ashes interment.
- The Book of Remembrance has temporarily moved to Worcester Guildhall.
