Chapel and opening hours

A maximum of 100 people can sit inside the chapel for a service, not including the minister – 93 in the main chapel and 7 in the waiting room, plus limited standing room. Services run Monday to Thursday, 9am to 3pm (the first and last slots of the day are 20-minute services), and Friday 9am to 2pm (first slot 20 minutes). The chapel has a hearing loop system and a Wesley music and media system, which supports visual tributes, web broadcasts, and service recordings on request.

The grounds are open every day of the year. A separate Chapel of Remembrance is open seven days a week, 9am to 4.30pm including bank holidays, for Book of Remembrance entries and floral tributes.

About this crematorium

Wakefield Crematorium is operated by Wakefield Council, which also runs the sister site at Pontefract Crematorium. Both follow the Federation of British Cremation Authority’s code of cremation practice.

The £1,122 standard cremation fee goes to the council. The funeral director’s charges are separate and paid on top, which is why two families using the same crematorium can pay very different totals. Our directory of funeral directors in Wakefield lists every firm with premises across the district – the city, Castleford, Pontefract, Ossett, Normanton and more – alongside the prices each one publishes.
