Booking and facilities

Services run in 45-minute time slots, giving families a full 30 minutes of chapel time. Saturday morning services are available at an extra cost, and a longer slot can sometimes be booked if the following time is still free when you book. Source: North Tyneside Council – cremations.

The council asks mourners to move away from the chapel promptly after a service, since both Tynemouth and Whitley Bay have only one entrance and exit shared with the next booking. Any music requests need to reach the council at least 48 hours before the funeral. Source: North Tyneside Council – cremations.

Emissions rules restrict the type of coffin, lining, varnish and paint that can be used, and the council asks that the deceased is dressed in natural fibres, with nothing plastic or copper placed in the coffin. Cremated remains can be held for 7 days after the cremation while the family decides what to do with them – options include scattering in the Garden of Remembrance, burial, or collection by the funeral director. Floral tributes are displayed for 7 days after the service – in the Garden of Remembrance at Tynemouth, or around the crematorium at Whitley Bay – with a flower card naming the deceased. Source: North Tyneside Council – cremations.
