Sunderland City Council operates several municipal cemeteries across the city, with an adult interment fee of £1,064. Fees below are sourced directly from the council’s own published bereavement fees and charges schedule, effective 1 April 2025 and reviewed annually.

Exclusive right of burial

The exclusive right of burial (ERB) gives the holder control over who can be buried in the grave and over any memorial placed on it. In Sunderland, ERB is granted for:

  • 100 years for full-size (coffin) graves
  • 50 years for cremated remains graves
