Somerset Council cemetery fees

Current burial and cemetery fees for Somerset Council, effective 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. Somerset Council (formed in April 2023 from the merger of Somerset’s four district councils) manages a number of cemeteries across the county, including Taunton and Wellington Cemetery, Street Cemetery, Shepton Mallet Cemetery, and Easthill Cemetery (Frome), as well as the Yeovil Crematorium and Cemetery site.

The fees below apply to Taunton and Wellington Cemetery (Taunton Deane Crematorium and Cemetery), which publishes the most complete schedule. Other Somerset Council cemeteries may have different pricing – contact the relevant facility directly.

Somerset Council fees include the memorial permit in the ERB purchase price (except kerb memorials and those over 36 inches high, which are charged separately). There is no published non-resident premium for ERB at Taunton and Wellington – the same rates apply to all.

About Somerset Council’s cemeteries

Somerset Council came into being on 1 April 2023 as a unitary authority, replacing the Somerset County Council and the four district councils of Mendip, Sedgemoor, Somerset West and Taunton, and South Somerset. It covers a large rural county with a population of around 570,000, including the towns of Taunton, Yeovil, Bridgwater, Frome, Glastonbury, and Wells.

Cemetery management was inherited from the predecessor councils. Taunton and Wellington Cemetery (Taunton Deane Crematorium and Cemetery site, Wellington New Road, Taunton TA1 5NE) is the primary active site serving the county town. It is co-located with Taunton Crematorium.

Yeovil Crematorium and Cemetery serves the south of the county. Easthill Cemetery in Frome serves the Mendip area. Street Cemetery and Shepton Mallet Cemetery serve their respective towns.

Parents wishing to arrange a child burial should contact the council directly – there is no charge for children under 18, with costs recovered through the Ministry of Justice Children’s Funeral Fund.
