Oadby & Wigston Borough Council cemetery fees

Current burial and cemetery fees for Oadby & Wigston Borough Council, effective 1 April 2026. The council operates two cemeteries: Oadby Cemetery and Wigston Cemetery.

Advance plot purchase is not permitted at Oadby Cemetery. At Wigston Cemetery, burial and cremation plots may be purchased in advance, subject to a maximum of two plots per applicant. All grave spaces are allocated in rotation.

The council applies two different non-resident multipliers: plot purchase (ERB) is trebled for non-residents, while interment fees are doubled.

Grave purchase (exclusive right of burial)

The ERB grants exclusive rights for 100 years. The adult grave allows up to two coffin burials and up to six ash caskets. The fee includes the application for a memorial not exceeding 2ft 6in (750mm) in height.

Note on short notice: An additional charge of £282.74 applies for burials arranged with less than 48 hours’ notice, or cremated remains interments with less than 24 hours’ notice, for both residents and non-residents.

Who counts as a resident

For ERB purchase: Anyone with a permanent home address within the Borough of Oadby and Wigston at the time of applying.

For interments: Any person who had resided in the Borough for five consecutive years immediately preceding death, including people who had moved into a care home outside the Borough within the preceding three years (having lived in the Borough for five or more consecutive years before that), and people who lived in the Borough for five or more consecutive years but moved out within the six months before death.
