About Newport City Council cemeteries

Newport is the third largest city in Wales and the principal city of Gwent in south-east Wales. The city’s cemeteries have considerable Victorian heritage: St Woolos Cemetery opened in 1854 and contains memorials reflecting Newport’s industrial past. Christchurch Cemetery serves the east of the city. All fees exclude VAT – Newport City Council confirms that cemetery services are exempt from VAT under current HMRC ruling.

Fees verified 2026-08-04 against Newport City Council’s own cemetery charges page, cross-checked against the Budget Council-approved schedule (approved 25 February 2025). Fees effective 1 April 2025, still the current 2025/26 schedule as of this verification – no 2026/27 revision has been published.
