Merton cemetery fees
Current burial and cemetery fees for the London Borough of Merton. The council operates three cemeteries: London Road Cemetery (Mitcham), Gap Road Cemetery (Wimbledon), and – jointly with the London Borough of Sutton – the Merton and Sutton Joint Cemetery (Lower Morden Lane). Graves can only be purchased at the time of a burial. Non-residents pay close to double the resident rate across every grave type.
The Exclusive Right of Burial is a lease; ownership of the land remains with the council. Leases are available for 50 or 75 years.

About Merton cemeteries
London Road Cemetery (London Road, SM4 5LX) and Gap Road Cemetery (Gap Road, SW19 8JA) are council-operated. Gap Road has new traditional and casket grave spaces available; London Road is the main site for new lawn burials. The Merton and Sutton Joint Cemetery (Lower Morden Lane, SM4 4NU) is managed jointly with Sutton Council.
A maximum of six interments per grave is permitted. Graves are dug for two interments at opening; ground conditions occasionally limit this to one.
Residency applies to the deceased’s registered address at the time of death. Gap Road has a small number of graves available for pre-purchase in reserve – contact the cemetery office for availability.
