Maidstone Borough Council cemetery fees
Current burial and cemetery fees for Maidstone Borough Council at Maidstone Cemetery, Sutton Road. The Exclusive Right of Burial (ERB) and interment are separate charges. Unusually, non-residents pay four times the resident rate – not the standard double.
A resident is defined as a person who pays Council Tax to Maidstone Borough Council.
Exclusive right of burial (ERB)
General lawn and grave plots
| ERB term | Resident fee | Non-resident fee |
|---|---|---|
| 30 years | £1,700 | £6,800 |
| 60 years | £3,400 | £13,600 |
Cremated remains plots
| ERB term | Resident fee | Non-resident fee |
|---|---|---|
| 30 years | £800 | £3,200 |
| 60 years | £1,600 | £6,400 |
The right of burial entitles you to request that the grave is opened for a full coffin burial or an ashes burial during the ERB period. Each plot can hold a maximum of three full burials (down to 2.7 metres) and up to eight sets of ashes.
Adult interment fee
| Service | Resident fee | Non-resident fee |
|---|---|---|
| Adult interment (any depth – 4ft, 6ft or 8ft) | £1,300 | £5,200 |
| Cremated remains burial | £350 | £1,400 |
Maidstone charges a single interment fee regardless of burial depth, to encourage double- and triple-depth burials and conserve grave space.
Children and infants
There is no charge for the burial of children aged under 18, or for post-24-week gestation to 18 years. A fee of £350 applies for pre-24-week gestation.
Non-resident fees
Non-residents pay four times the resident rate for both the ERB and interment. This applies from 1 July 2022 onwards.
