Gilroes and Saffron Hill cemetery fees, Leicester
Current burial and cemetery fees for Leicester City Council cemeteries, effective from 1 April 2026. New graves are only available at Gilroes Cemetery (Groby Road) and Saffron Hill Cemetery – Gilroes also shares its site with Leicester’s only crematorium; see our Leicester (Gilroes) crematorium fees page if you need cremation costs instead. Existing family graves may still be used at Belgrave and Welford Road cemeteries, but no new plots are sold there. Resident rates apply to those permanently resident in the city. About Leicester City Council cemeteries
Leicester City Council operates four cemeteries: Gilroes (Groby Road, opened 1902, also home to the crematorium), Saffron Hill (opened 1929), Welford Road (opened 1849), and Belgrave (opened 1881). New graves are sold only at Gilroes and Saffron Hill; Belgrave and Welford Road remain open for burials in existing family graves where space allows, but no new plots are sold at either. Contact the council’s bereavement services for plot availability and to arrange a burial.
