King's Lynn cemetery fees: £835 for residents, double for everyone else

Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk cemetery fees

Current burial and cemetery fees for the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, effective 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027. The council operates cemeteries at Gayton Road (King’s Lynn), Hardwick Road (King’s Lynn), Hunstanton, Marshland St James, and Walpole St Andrew. Non-residents pay double all standard fees.

Note: Gayton Road Cemetery is approaching capacity and is closing to new burial applications from April 2026. Families who have already reserved plots, or who hold the right to a second burial, are not affected.

Non-resident rates (200% of full fee) apply where a person dies outside the Borough of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk and has not resided within the borough boundaries in the 5 years prior to death. Proof of residency may be requested.

Weekend and bank holiday interments are charged at a substantially higher rate. Interment of cremated remains is available on weekdays only.

Access to Gayton Road Cemetery by vehicle is restricted. Key-fobs are available to Blue Badge holders or those with supporting documentation from a GP.

Non-resident fees

The non-resident charge is 200% of the standard fee – in practice, double the rate. This applies across all fee categories including ERB purchase, interment, and cremated remains interment. Non-resident status is determined by residency of the deceased, with a 5-year look-back period.

The Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk manages cemeteries serving the principal settlements of West Norfolk. King’s Lynn is the largest town in the district, with Gayton Road and Hardwick Road cemeteries serving the town. Hunstanton Cemetery serves the coastal town to the north. Marshland St James and Walpole St Andrew are smaller rural sites in the marshland parishes of the south-west.

West Norfolk is a largely rural district with a significant agricultural community and a spread of market towns and villages across the Norfolk landscape.
