Isle of Wight Council cemetery fees

Isle of Wight Council manages several cemeteries across the island, including Northwood, Carisbrooke, Ryde and Shanklin. The council grants exclusive right of burial for 100 years – a significantly longer term than most English councils, which typically grant 30 to 75 years.

The fees below are effective from 1 April 2026. Burials take place Monday to Friday.

Grave space purchase (exclusive right of burial)

Plot typeFee (2026/27)
Full grave space (100-year term)£1,180

When purchasing a grave, you buy the exclusive right of burial rather than the land itself. This grants the right to consent to burials in the grave and to apply for a headstone or memorial for the full 100-year term.

No distinction between resident and non-resident rates is published for burial plot purchase.
