High Peak Borough Council manages four cemeteries – at Buxton, Glossop, Hope, and Thornsett – serving communities across the High Peak district in Derbyshire. Cemetery services are delivered through Alliance Bereavement Services, in partnership with Cheshire East Council. Out-of-area residents pay double the resident rate.

Children’s burial is free at three of the four cemeteries, not all of them. Grave purchase for a child under 18 (or stillborn after 24 weeks) is free at Buxton, Glossop and Thornsett cemeteries under the Children’s Funeral Fund for England (CFF) – your local authority claims this on your behalf. Hope Cemetery is not included in the free-child-grave list: a child’s grave there is charged at the same rate as an adult grave (£830 resident, £415 for an ashes grave). Interment/burial of a child is free at Buxton, Glossop and Thornsett; elsewhere a new full-size child grave interment is £387.50 (resident) and a reopened child grave interment is also £387.50 (resident), doubling for out-of-area residents. A child’s “single use” memorial permit is free on any grave type.
