Glasgow City Council cemetery fees

Current burial and cemetery fees for Glasgow City Council, effective from 1 March 2026. Glasgow City Council operates 32 cemeteries and churchyards across the city, with 8 under regular use. A resident/non-resident pricing distinction applies – non-residents pay double the resident rate.

The £1,573 lair purchase is only part of the cost. A burial also needs an interment fee (£1,171 for a resident adult) to open the ground and carry out the burial. Together, a standard resident burial comes to £2,744 – non-residents pay £5,488. Both fees are set out in full below.

Important change from 1 March 2026: New lairs are no longer granted in perpetuity. All new lair purchases now carry a 25-year initial lease. After the initial period, renewal costs 20% of the prevailing lair purchase price per 10-year term. This change was introduced under the Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016. Lairs purchased before this date are not affected.
