About Cotswold District Council’s cemeteries
Cotswold District Council operates two cemeteries, both located in Cirencester, the principal town of the Cotswold district:
Chesterton Cemetery has a chapel available for hire. It is the primary active burial ground for the district.
Stratton Cemetery is a smaller cemetery without a chapel. It serves the Stratton area of Cirencester.
For most burials elsewhere in the Cotswold district – in villages and smaller settlements – the local parish or town council manages the burial ground, and fees are set by that council rather than by Cotswold District Council. The district council holds burial records for Chesterton and Stratton cemeteries only.
Cotswold District Council is a rural local authority in north-west Gloucestershire, covering the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the towns of Cirencester, Tetbury, Moreton-in-Marsh, Bourton-on-the-Water, and Stow-on-the-Wold.
